We were asked to bring back a huge inflatable that we had previously used in Geneva, Darmstadt and Berlin, and now we were launching the #MakingSCHistory Worm in the Albert Dock at Liverpool for the 11th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health, to raise awareness of the disease SC. As previously stated, the inflatable was made from 0.4mm PVC Tarpaulin which was made in sections and welded together to give it the shape the customer wanted. This was then connected onto two inflatable pontoons to keep the worm stable so it could float in water.
For this operation we were working with Merck Group, the Canal and River Trust and Bluepoint Marine who assisted us with the launch and placement of the inflatable. Again, an inflatable of this size required a huge amount of planning, site surveys and logistics to handle safety and correctly to get into the water. With the launching location we had to carefully position the inflatable and inflate it in stages, launching it into the dock section by section and positioning it with the aid of Bluepoint Marine.
